During recent history, the island, formerly known as ‘Hog Island,’ was renamed ‘Honeymoon Island’ when a developer used it as a Rest and Recuperation Facility for newly married World War II servicemen and their brides. Following the war, the island had mostly remained in its natural state. Then, in the 1970s, the causeway from the mainland was constructed, the drawbridge erected, and construction of eight residential buildings, housing 449 units known as Royal Stewart Arms, were completed.
Shielded from commercial tourism, Royal Stewart Arms offers the opportunity of year-round vacation living in harmony with nature on one of the last remaining, still unspoiled, small Florida islands.
